Approximately fifty vehicles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Officers report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued substance.
The substance had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Officers then located multiple other smeared cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement state preliminary tests suggest the liquid was most likely human blood.
"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; officials are presently not aware of any injuries in association with the incident," they added.
Local authorities said they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the community for details.
A senior official commented the attack rendered him without words and needed to be solved promptly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing attack five years ago," he posted on online, referring to the death of nine individuals by a shooter targeting individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
