A person who spiked sweets with sleeping medication and distributed them to minors at a youth camp in the region has pleaded guilty to sexual offenses against two boys who were nine and ten years old.

The accused was detained after eight youngsters and one adult fell ill at the location in July.

The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a total of 17 charges when he stood at the judicial center on the end of the week.

Nevertheless, he denied a single sexual charge he was charged with, which was against a nine-year-old child.

The accused was kept in jail prior to a subsequent court date on late November.

'Candy game'

Mary Prior KC, prosecuting, described the defendant's actions to the judicial body.

She stated his victims were under-privileged children who were attending a summer program which he operated.

The defendant conducted a "sweet game" with the minors, the legal counsel explained, in which he would enter the boys' rooms when they were preparing to sleep and request they to eat sweets "as quickly as they can".

She told the court the man had engaged in this activity with the children "for many years", and minors had earlier experienced illness the following morning.

She stated the man had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his family member had worries in recently.

Mrs Prior KC stated further: "This year his stepchild had concerns about the situation, for good reason.

"They chose" to have a look in the defendant's belongings."

The legal counsel stated materials including infant oil, ointment and injection devices were discovered, and his stepchild alerted the police about his concerns.

She stated the man went on to conduct the "sweet game" with six children that night - July 26th - and they were all sick the subsequent day.

"Authorities" had not arrived by that stage," she stated further.

The police watchdog, the investigative body, had stated that it was reviewing the police response of the events.

The legal representative said the minors were unable to walk properly due to their sickness, so the family member notified the police again.

She explained Ruben then conducted the "candy game" in a space of five youngsters.
